4. St. John's Wort . Treat mental disorders, nerve pain, sleep disorders. This herbal medicine may be useful in treating mild to moderate depression. It can interact with some drugs including anti-depressants and increase risk of side effects. Possible side effects include stomach upset, headache, confusion, anxiety, and more.

5. Glucosamine and Chondroitin . Used to treat joint pain and repair cartilage. Studies have found this herbal medicine is helpful in cartilage formation, elasticity, and repair. Effects can be similar to NSAID benefit. Usually well-tolerated, but there is a possibility of intestinal gas and softened stools. There is a possible contraindication in children, pregnant women, people with diabetes, those using coagulant drugs, and those with allergy to shellfish.
