Baycol Settlement

Since the Baycol recall occurred in August 2001, a high number of Baycol lawsuits have been filed and resulted in Baycol settlements. As of June 10, 2003, Bayer said it had 888 Baycol settlements, but was still up against 9,400 more cases pending. The company announced in May 2003 that it had paid $240 million so far for 785 Baycol settlements.

Bayer had not yet announced how much money the additional Baycol settlements cost it. It has been estimated that as of June 2003 more than half of the serious Baycol lawsuits had been included in the Baycol settlements. There has been a large focus on the way the Baycol lawsuits have progressed by people that have suffered Baycol side effects, investors worried about Bayer stock, and especially by families of the 100 Baycol linked deaths.
