Celebrex Claim

A Celebrex claim can be filed against Pfizer, the makers of this top selling prescription pain killer, by those who have suffered injuries as a result of the serious side effects associated with Celebrex use. Pfizer announced in December 2004 that clinical studies have found taking higher doses of Celebrex can double or triple a person's risk of suffering from a heart attack or stroke. Pfizer has made no indication that they plan to take Celebrex off the market in order to protect consumers from potentially deadly cardiovascular risks.

Filing a Celebrex claim is the legal option available to those who have suffered injury as a result of taking this arguably defective COX-2 selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Celebrex was first approved for use in the United States in 1999 to treat the pain associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, primary dysmenorrhea, and other chronic pain conditions. Due to strong marketing tactics, Pfizer has made Celebrex one of the top ten selling prescription drugs in America, generating annual revenue of more than two billion dollars.

In light of recent clinical trial findings, the FDA has criticized Pfizer for downplaying potential Celebrex side effects while exaggerating the drugs benefits. In January 2005, the FDA wrote a letter to Pfizer requesting that they halt all mass media advertising of Celebrex. Pfizer had already pulled all Celebrex ads the month before in anticipation of this request. The FDA has also suggested that doctors consider prescribing alternatives to Celebrex in order to protect patients from cardiovascular dangers.

The National Institutes of Health has officially ordered the review of over forty agency-sponsored clinical trials involving Celebrex use in order to further investigate the cardiovascular threat posed by Celebrex use. The FDA has plans to hold a three day hearing in February 2005 to discuss the risks and benefits of all COX-2 selective pain killers. It is possible that the FDA will request a recall of Celebrex and other similar medications if they find compelling evidence regarding cardiovascular risks.

The first Celebrex claim has already been filed and many more legal Celebrex claims are expected to follow. This first class action Celebrex lawsuit was filed on behalf of any US resident who has taken Celebrex whether or not they sustained injuries as a result. This Celebrex claim charges that Pfizer negligently marketed a drug with such severe and common side effects that no reasonable pharmaceutical company would have done so. This Celebrex claim also poses a question to the court regarding the possibility of punitive damages. In the first few days following the filing of this Celebrex claim, hundreds of Celebrex users have come forward with cases of Celebrex injury.

If you have taken and/or have been injured by Celebrex use, you may wish to contact your medical doctor to discuss your concerns.
