Celebrex Danger

The preliminary results of a clinical trial may show evidence of cardiovascular Celebrex danger. A study funded by Pfizer, Celebrex's maker, and conducted by the National Caner Institute was designed to test the effects of Celebrex on cancer. The study was suspended after preliminary results showed a Celebrex danger of increased heart attack and stroke risks for patients taking this pain relieving prescription drug. Patients in the clinical trial who were taking 400 to 800 milligrams of Celebrex were two and half times more likely to suffer an adverse cardiovascular event than patients in the placebo group.

The Celebrex danger results of this study were publicly announced on December 17, 2004. A spokesperson from Pfizer announced that the pharmaceutical company is taking immediate steps to investigate these findings with promised to inform regulators, doctors and patients worldwide about this possible Celebrex danger. The spokesperson also announced that Pfizer does not intend to recall this COX-2 selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) as a result of Celebrex danger reports.

Analyzing the extent of Celebrex danger has been complicated by the fact that other similar studies have found no increased cardiovascular risks in patients taking Celebrex. Celebrex danger information has also been affected by the recent recall of a similar COX-2 NSAID, called Vioxx. Vioxx was voluntarily pulled from the shelves on September 30, 2004 after Merck clinical trials showed that patients taking Vioxx for eighteen months were two times more likely to suffer from heart attack or stroke than the general population. This recall prompted international concern about Celebrex danger, and the danger of all COX-2 NSAIDs.

Since this recall, Pfizer has publicly announced on three separate occasions that there is no cardiovascular Celebrex danger risk for patients taking this pain medication. Celebrex danger will continue to be investigated by Pfizer and government regulators until cardiovascular risk findings are confirmed. There are, however, other types of Celebrex danger that may cause an increased risk of adverse health problems in people taking this medication.

Gastrointestinal Celebrex danger reports show that patients who are taking this drug are at an increased risk of developing potentially fatal gastrointestinal bleeding (ulcers) from Celebrex use. Increased Celebrex danger is also possible in patients who have a history of allergic reaction to aspirin, other arthritis medications, or certain sulfa drugs (sulfonamides). Patients who suffer from high blood pressure, fluid retention, or heart problems may also be at an increased Celebrex danger for serious health complications. Common side effects associated with Celebrex can include stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea.

If you are currently taking Celebrex and are concerned about the recent Celebrex danger reports, you should speak with your doctor before making any changes to your treatment. There may be other alternative medications that you can use instead of Celebrex that have a lower risk of side effects.
