Chantix Injuries

800-889-3898

Generically known as varenicline, Chantix is a non-nicotine smoking cessation pill that has been found to increase users' risk of developing severe side effects. Among the serious Chantix injuries (including mental and physical Chantix injuries) reported have been:

  • depression
  • psychosis
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), swelling of the skin's mucous membrane that triggers severe, painful blisters typically on the mouth, eyes and genitals
  • suicidal thoughts and/or suicidal behaviors
  • toxic epidermal necrolysis syndrome (TENS), a more serious, life-threatening form of SJS that  causes the outer layer of skin to separate from the underlying layers, die off and be shed from the body.

These possible Chantix injuries can be fatal if left untreated.

Milder Chantix Injuries

Not all Chantix side effects are serious or life threatening. In most cases, patients will only experience mild Chantix injuries, which can include:

  • appetite changes
  • constipation
  • dry mouth
  • gas
  • general weakness
  • headaches
  • nausea
  • sleeping difficulties
  • unusual or disturbing dreams
  • vomiting

Nausea tends to be the most common Chantix side effect.

While most individuals can deal with the above, mild Chantix injuries, should they start impairing a user's quality of life, patients are advised to talk to their doctors about finding an alternative to Chantix.

Risk Factors for Chantix Injuries

Clearly, some patients will have a higher risk of developing Chantix injuries than others. Those who are more likely to experience Chantix injuries include patients with a history of:

  • agoraphobia (an extreme fear of unfamiliar places)
  • anxiety disorders
  • bipolar disorder
  • depression
  • psychosis
  • severe allergic reactions

A study published in May 2008 reported that over 3,000 patients had developed serious, potentially fatal Chantix injuries. More tragically, over 55 people have committed suicide after taking Chantix.

What to do Following a Chantix Injury

Injured users should:

  • Seek immediate medical attention to prevent further complications and possible death
  • Follow through with all long-term prescribed treatments
  • Find an alternative medication or method for smoking cessation
  • Meet with a personal injury lawyer who specializes in Chantix lawsuits to find out if they are entitled to compensation for their Chantix injuries

During an initial consultation with a Chantix attorney, injured individuals can:

  • Find out if they have a case against Pfizer, the maker of Chantix
  • Learn more about the process of filing and winning Chantix lawsuits
  • Hear about settlements in cases similar to their own
  • Choose to start an individual Chantix lawsuit or join a class-action case

These initial consultations are usually free, as Chantix lawyers want to encourage injured patients to stand up for their legal rights and seek out the settlements they deserve.
