Chantix® Suicide Attempts

Chantix®, a smoking cessation medication, is known to cause suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts in certain at-risk patients. Despite the fact that Pfizer, the maker of Chantix®, claims that this drug has helped over 6 million people quit smoking, the severe side effects associated with Chantix® use mean that prospective patients should:

• Disclose their complete medical history to their doctors before starting a course of Chantix®.

• panic disorder
• psychosis

Other Severe Chantix® Side Effects

Along with suicide attempts, other serious Chantix® side effects can include:

 

• Depression
• Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), a life-threatening skin condition in which inflammation in the mucous membranes causes the outer layer of the skin to separate from the lower layers
• Toxic epidermal necrolysis syndrome (TENS), a more severe form of SJS in which symptoms affect over 30 percent of the body and the outer layer of skin starts sloughing (shedding) off

Without immediate medical treatment, any of these Chantix® side effects can be fatal.

Following a Chantix® Suicide Attempt

Injured patients will likely need anti-depressant medication, psychiatric care and an alternative to Chantix®. Once their health is stable, these individuals should set up an initial consultation with a Chantix® lawyer to:
