Over thirty Digitek lawsuits have been filed in a multitude of jurisdictions since the April 2008 recall of all pill-form Digitek. As of July 2008, Digitek lawsuits have been filed in:

  • Alabama
  • California
  • Michigan
  • New Jersey
  • West Virginia

The lawsuits allege illnesses, damages — and in at least one case, a death — due to Digitek, the digitalis drug used to treat heart conditions. Additional Digitek lawsuits are expected.

The Defendants in Digitek Lawsuits
Digitek, a prescription-only medicine derived from digitalis, has been used in the U.S. to treat millions of patients with cardiac issues such as congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter. Distributed in the U.S. by two companies, Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc. and UDL Laboratories Inc., Digitek is manufactured by Actavis Totowa, LLC, based in Morristown, New Jersey. The parent company, Actavis Group, is a generic pharmaceutical company based in Iceland. All four entities have been named as defendants in various Digitek lawsuits.

Double-Thickness, Double-Dose Digitek
Actavis acknowledged at the time of the recall that some lots or batches of Digitek tablets may have been mistakenly produced with double the intended thickness and thus double the active ingredient.

It takes only a slight increase in the dose of Digitek to make a very big (and dangerous) difference in the drugs’ effect. The illnesses and potential deaths from such a significant manufacturing defect may have harmed thousands of people, and those who have been harmed may be entitled to monetary compensation.

The Signs of Digitek Toxicity
The signs of Digitek toxicity include low blood pressure, nausea, and cardiac instability. Anyone who has been treated with tablet/pill-form Digitek should be aware of these signs and should contact their physicians to make sure that they’re not taking a form of the recalled Digitek.
