Marketed by GlaxoSmithKline, Digitek (digoxin) is a medication used to make the heart beat stronger and more regularly. Among the conditions that the Digitek drug is prescribed to treat include:

Digitek Drug Interactions

Certain medications, when taken in conjunction with Digitek, may cause negative interactions. Tell your doctor if you are currently taking any of the following, as these medications may affect your Digitek dose or preclude you from safely taking Digitek altogether:

• antacids
• antibiotics
• alprazolam (Xanax)
• cancer drugs
• diuretics
• epinephrine (EpiPen)
• methyldopa (Aldomet)
• rifampin (Rifadin, Rifater, Rifamate)

Also, to minimize your chances of developing serious Digitek side effects, be sure to talk to your doctor about your complete medical history before starting a course of the Digitek drug. Patients with a history of the following conditions may need dose adjustments or an alternative heart medication:

• atrioventricular (AV) block, an impairment in the blood flow between the atria and ventricles of the heart
• electrolyte imbalance (such as low levels of magnesium or calcium in the blood)
• heart attack
• kidney disease
• thyroid disorder
