Digitek® Digoxin Tablets

Digitek®® (generic: digoxin) tablets were recalled in April 2008 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Digitek®’s manufacturer, Actavis Totowa, LLC. The Digitek® digoxin tablets may have twice the correct amount of digoxin (the active ingredient) in them, putting patients at grave risk of digoxin toxicity. All dose-levels of the Digitek® digoxin tablets were recalled throughout the United States.

The Risks of Recalled Digitek® Digoxin Tablets

The digoxin in Digitek® tablets is extremely toxic at high levels. The recalled Digitek® tablets may produce the following symptoms:

• dizziness
• low blood pressure
• nausea and vomiting
• bradycardia (abnormally slow heart rate)
• tachycardia (abnormally fast heart rate)
• other signs of cardiac instability

If you or someone you love experiences any of the above symptoms following administration of a Digitek® digoxin tablet, seek medical attention immediately.
 

Digoxin Tablets for Cardiac Problems

Digitek® digoxin tablets are used for treating congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and other heart conditions. Digitek® digoxin tablets are prescription-only treatments, in light of the high toxicity of their active ingredient.

The Recalled Digitek® Tablets

The recalled Digitek® digoxin tablets were made by Actavis but distributed by two companies that labeled the tablets: UDL Laboratories (under the label “UDL”) and Mylan Pharmaceuticals (under the label “Bertek”). If you’re currently taking Digitek® digoxin tablets with either type of label, contact your doctor immediately.
