OsmoPrep: Side Effects & Lawsuits

OsmoPrep, generically known as sodium phosphate, is a bowel cleansing medication prescribed to patients before they undergo surgery, a colonoscopy or an x-ray. OsmoPrep is produced by Salix Pharmaceuticals and comes in tablet form.

Other brand names for sodium phosphate medications include Fleet Phospho Soda® (produced by C.B. Fleet) and Visicol (produced by Salix Pharmaceuticals).

Following this FDA alert, all over-the-counter sodium phosphates were recalled from the market. Currently, OsmoPrep is only available with a doctor's prescription.
