Fleet Phospho Soda®: FDA Warnings, Recalls and Lawsuits
On December 12, 2008, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a nationwide warning to alert patients about the risks associated with taking Fleet Phospho Soda®. Along with publicizing the dangers of this bowel cleansing medication, the FDA's alert also:
- required C.B. Fleet to include “black box” warnings on all Fleet Phospho Soda® packaging (This is the strictest level of FDA warning, as it highlights a drug's potential of causing life-threatening side effects.)
- mandated that C.B. Fleet conduct further clinical trials to more fully assess the extent of Fleet Phospho Soda®'s side effects
- prompted C.B. Fleet to voluntarily recall all of its over-the-counter Fleet Phospho Soda® products
Regardless of these measures, however, many patients have been and will continue to be severely injured after taking Fleet Phospho Soda®. Injured parties will likely be entitled to a settlement for their injuries and losses by pursuing a defective drug lawsuit.
