Gardasil® Attorneys
(800) 889-9248
Gardasil® attorneys focus their practice on the field of product liability and/or medical malpractice, both of which can involve legal actions regarding the drugs, vaccines, and medical devices that cause injury or illness. Recent safety issues and legal matters regarding Gardasil®, a cervical cancer HPV vaccine, have been taken up by Gardasil® plaintiffs' attorneys.
Vaccine Available Since 2007
Marketed by Merck & Co., Gardasil® was added to the roster of routine childhood vaccinations (for girls in many states) in 2007. A recent study of Gardasil®-related reports in the FDA/CDC's Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) revealed some troubling data about Gardasil®.
GBS Developing Soon After Gardasil® Vaccination
According to the study's lead author, Dr. Nizar Souayah, the girls and women who received Gardasil® vaccinations may be at "an increased incidence of Guillain-Barre syndrome [also known as "Guillain-Barre" or GBS] in the first six weeks, especially the first two weeks, after vaccination." Guillain-Barre is a rare, serious disorder in which an individual's own immune system attacks her nervous system.
Guillain-Barre is usually triggered by an infection or illness (such as a flu virus), and it may also be triggered by a vaccination. The recent study's examination of VAERS identified 53 cases of Guillain-Barre among Gardasil®-vaccinated individuals.
The Role of Gardasil® Attorneys
When an individual is hurt (or even killed) by an adverse reaction to a dangerous drug, a attorney can work on behalf of the injured individual or her surviving family to obtain a legal remedy for damages such as:
- medical costs — including hospitalization, treatment, and nursing care
- loss of income — past and future
- long-term care — at a facility or at home
- loss of ability to work — or to work at one's former profession
- permanent disability
- loss of a loved one — her companionship, guidance, and/or financial contribution to the family
Guillain-Barre syndrome is characterized by paralysis that starts in the legs and spreads to the upper body, arms and face. Most patients with Guillain-Barre can recover with proper treatment, but the syndrome may be fatal if pulmonary complications or nervous system malfunctions occur.
