Hydroxycut® vs. Alli Weight Loss Pills

800-889-3898

Hydroxycut® and Alli are both dietary supplements that claim to improve the potential for weight loss when taken along with a low-calorie diet and regular exercise. While Hydroxycut® is made by Iovate Health Sciences, Inc., Alli is produced by GlaxoSmithKline.

Another important difference between these diet pills is that nearly all Hydroxycut® products have recently been recalled from U.S. markets due to findings that they can cause life-threatening side effects.

Alternately, no such serious side effects have yet been associated with use of Alli.

Alli Ingredients and Side Effects

Alli, the brand name for a drug generically known as orlistat, is an over-the-counter supplement that prevents about 30 percent of fat a person consumes from being absorbed by the body. Prescription strength Alli is sold under the name Xenical and is produced by Roche.

Side effects of Alli may include:

  • diarrhea
  • gassiness
  • increased, possibly uncontrollable bowel movements
  • loss stools
  • oily anal discharge.

Individuals at a healthy weight or those who have had an organ transplant shouldn't take Alli.

Hydroxycut® Side Effects and Recalled Products

To date, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has received 23 reports of life-threatening Hydroxycut® side effects, including:

  • cardiovascular disorders, including heart attack and irregular heart beat
  • liver damage
  • rhabdomyolysis, a rare condition marked by muscle deterioration and, eventually, kidney failure
  • seizures.

In 2007, a young man from the southwest died after developing Hydroxycut® liver damage.

The severity of known Hydroxycut® side effects led the FDA to issue a national public advisory regarding this weight loss supplement on May 1, 2009. Subsequently, Iovate Health Sciences, Inc. issued a voluntarily Hydroxycut® recall of the following 14 products:

  • Hydroxycut® 24
  • Hydroxycut® Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
  • Hydroxycut® Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
  • Hydroxycut® Carb Control
  • Hydroxycut® Hardcore Drink Packest (Ignition Stix)
  • Hydroxycut® Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
  • Hydroxycut® Hardcore Liquid Caplets
  • Hydroxycut® Liquid Shoots
  • Hydroxycut® Max Aqua Shed
  • Hydroxycut® Max Drink Packets
  • Hydroxycut® Max Liquid Caplets
  • Hydroxycut® Natural
  • Hydroxycut® Regular Drink Packets
  • Hydroxycut® Regular Rapid Release Caplets.

Anyone in possession of recalled Hydroxycut® products should:

  • Stop using them immediately.
  • Return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.

Hydroxycut® Lawsuits

Those injured after using Hydroxycut®, as well as families of deceased Hydroxycut® patients, should meet with an experienced personal injury lawyer to:

  • Learn more about their legal rights.
  • Find out if they are entitled to a settlement for their injuries and losses.
  • Learn more about the process of winning a Hydroxycut® lawsuit.
  • Get advice regarding the best manner in which to pursue their case.
