Hydroxycut® Deaths
800-889-3898
Hydroxycut®, a popular weight loss supplement, has been found to cause some rare but life-threatening side effects, including:
- cardiovascular disorders, such as heart attack or palpitations
- epilepsy
- liver damage
- rhabdomyolysis (a rare condition in which muscle deterioration can lead to kidney failure).
While the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already received 23 patient reports regarding serious Hydroxycut® side effects, to date, one person has died after developing Hydroxycut® liver problems.
Given the prevalence and severity of Hydroxycut® side effects, on May 1, 2009, the FDA issued a national public alert, warning consumers of Hydroxycut®'s association with severe health complications. Immediately after, Iovate Health Sciences, Inc., the manufacturer of Hydroxycut®, issued a Hydroxycut® recall of the following 14 Hydroxycut® products from U.S. markets:
- Hydroxycut® 24
- Hydroxycut® Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
- Hydroxycut® Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
