Hydroxycut® Side Effects

Hydroxycut® side effects have been a problem ever since the line of Hydroxycut® products was first introduced. A multitude of side effects from taking Hydroxycut® have been reported in each of the 70-plus countries in which the 750 different Hydroxycut® products are sold. A perusal of any of the many Internet sites and chat rooms devoted to reviews of diet and herbal supplements reveals many reports of Hydroxycut® side effects such as:

• acne
• diarrhea
• nausea
• intestinal gas
• hair loss
• increased blood pressure
• increased heart rate
• headaches
• light-headedness, dizziness
• loss of appetite
• restless feeling
• nose bleeds
• blurred vision
• difficulty breathing
• seizures

Ephedra, Caffeine, a Laundry List of Ingredients

It should be noted that some of these side effects may have been due to Hydroxycut® products containing ephedra (the plant source of the drug ephedrine), which the makers of Hydroxycut® products — Iovate Health Sciences — have stated is no longer an ingredient in Hydroxycut®. Other instances of adverse side effects may be due to reactions to the caffeine in some Hydroxycut® products. There are several Hydroxycut® products that are specifically labeled "caffeine-free," such as:

• Hydroxycut® Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
• Hydroxycut® Caffeine-Free Drink Packets

Recalled Due to Adverse Side Effects

However, these two products were among the 14 that were voluntarily recalled by Iovate in early May 2009, with the recommendation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that consumers in the U.S. stop using all Hydroxycut® products in light of the many reports of serious adverse side effects of Hydroxycut® products.

Indeed, Hydroxycut® products have a veritable laundry list of ingredients which may seem impressive and effective, but in truth there are no hard data on the effects or the safety of many of the ingredients of Hydroxycut® products.
