Levaquin® is the brand name for levofloxacin, a quinolone antibiotic that is most commonly prescribed for severe bacterial infections. Levaquin® is often prescribed for bacterial infections resulting from chronic bronchitis, pnemonia, sinusitis, and other infections of the lungs and respiratory tract.
Levaquin® interactions with other prescription drugs (including Diflucan, Lipitor, Advair, and others) can result in severe injuries to the patient, even after the course of medication is completed. Some of the most severe Levaquin® interactions occur when the drug is taken by patients who have also been prescribed anticoagulant medication or prescription corticosteroids.
Levaquin® interactions are most severe for certain classes of drugs, such as anticoagulants. Levaquin® interaction with Coumadin and other blood-thinning drugs can amplify the anticoagulation effects of certain medications and even lead to death. Patients taking Levaquin® along with anticoagulant medication are typically monitored closely and advised to immediately report any signs of a potential reaction to their physician.
Symptoms should be reported to a doctor as soon as they appear. They include:
Patients taking Levaquin® antibiotics are advised to avoid consuming alcoholic beverages during the course of medication therapy. Levaquin®, like other antibiotics, may cause serious side effects when taken by a patient who has also consumed alcohol. Alcohol can also impair the functionality of certain prescription antibiotics. If you experience lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, or other similar symptoms while taking Levaquin®, contact your physician.
Levaquin® has been linked to several severe cases of tendon rupture and injury, especially in patients over the age of 60. Taking prescription steroid medication, such as prednisone, has been found to increase the risk of Levaquin®-related tendon injury and other side effects. It is important to tell your doctor if you are currently taking any other medications before beginning a course of Levaquin® antibiotics.
If you’ve experienced injury due to Levaquin® interactions with alcohol, existing prescriptions, or other medications, you may be able to recover compensation. Contact our Levaquin® attorney today for more information on pursuing your legal claim.
