Levaquin® Medication

(800) 889-3898

Levaquin® is a powerful antibiotic medication that is prescribed for severe bacterial infections, such as those caused by pnemonia, chronic bronchitis, or exposure to anthrax.  Levaquin® antibiotics are also used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, sinuses, skin, and urinary tract.

Hundreds of patients have experienced severe adverse reactions to a prescribed course of Levaquin® medication.  Some of the most common Levaquin® medication side effects are allergic reactions, nervous system disorders, and tendon injuries.

Allergic Reactions to Levaquin®

Levaquin® medication is known to cause potentially life-threatening allergic reactions in some patients.  Most allergic reactions will occur shortly after a patient has taken the first dose.  Patients who experience any of the following signs or symptoms should call a doctor immediately:

  • skin rash
  • difficulty breathing
  • rapid heartbeat
  • swelling of the mouth, lips, or throat

Nervous System Disorders

Levaquin® has been linked to cases of convulsions and nervous system disorders, as well.  The symptoms of such a nervous system disorder may be hard to identify- reactions can be as mild as dizziness or nausea or as severe as tremors, depression, or even hallucinations.

Patients who experience nerve pain, a burning or tingling in the limbs, or changes in perception or vision are advised to call a doctor immediately.

Tendon Injuries Linked to Levaquin®

Several hundred instances of tendon rupture have been linked to the use of Levaquin® antibiotics. The risk for tendon injuries is especially high for active patients (runners, weight lifters, athletes, etc.) and for patients over the age of 60.

Levaquin® medication information contained on the label specifically warns of this risk- tendon rupture and other tendon injuries can occur while taking Levaquin® or after the course of medication is finished. Tendon rupture is a serious injury- if you suspect you may have suffered a tendon rupture, contact your doctor.
