Multaq® Manufacturer
Multaq® (dronedarone) is manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis. It is prescribed to patients who have experienced atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter in the last six months, and is designed to help keep these patients from having to go to the hospital.
Multaq®: Manufacturer Warnings
The manufacturer of Multaq® warns the following patients to not use Multaq®:
- Patients with severe heart failure (patients with heart failure who use the medication are at risk of death)
- Patients with serious liver problems
- Women who are breastfeeding or pregnant
- Patients taking certain medications that can interact with Multaq®
The manufacturer of Multaq® advises all patients that are prescribed the drug to provide their doctors with a complete list of medications they are taking before starting treatment. Some drugs interact negatively with Multaq®, including:
- Nefazodone
- Voriconazole
- Ritonavir
- Telithromycin
- Ketoconazole
- Clarithromycin
- Itraconazole
- Cyclosporine
In addition, the following drugs might increase a patient's risk of dangerous heart complications if taken at the same time as Multaq®:
- Phenothiazines
- Tricyclic antidepressants
- Certain medicines used to treat abnormal heart rhythm or fast heartbeat
- Certain antibiotics
Multaq® patients are advised not to drink grape juice when taking the medicine as it could prevent the drug from working properly.
Symptoms of Multaq® Heart Failure
Sanofi-Aventis warns patients to seek medical attention immediately if they begin to experience the following symptoms while using Multaq®:
- Weight gain
- Leg swelling
- Increasing shortness of breath while resting
These could be symptoms of heart failure.
A 400 mg pill should be taken two times a day. The manufacturer of Multaq® says it should be taken with food, at breakfast and dinner.
