Multaq® Tablets
Multaq® tablets are prescribed to patients to decrease the risk of hospitalization from cardiac arrhythmia by regulating the heartbeat. Cardiac arrhythmia includes atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. Irregular heartbeats affect millions of Americans each year.

As a result of the serious side effects associated with Multaq®, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that the drug carries a warning to educate patients about possible adverse reactions. Side effects include:
- slow heartbeat
- abdominal pain
- heartburn
- fatigue
- redness
- irritation
- hair loss
Some of the more dangerous and life threatening side effects include liver and kidney damage as well as death in patients with severe heart failure. The drug's packaging label carries a warning about the risk of death in patients with liver failure.
Multaq® Oral Medication
Multaq® tablets are taken orally each day. Multaq® is available in 400 mg doses. It is recommended that patients take Multaq® tablets with breakfast and dinner.
Patients should notify their doctors of the drugs they are taking when they are prescribed Multaq® tablets. Some drugs can cause negative interaction when taken with Multaq®. These can include certain antibiotics, blood thinners, Xanax®, Zocor® and Zoloft®. This is a short list, so make sure to discuss this with your doctor.
Patients who miss a dose are advised not to double the next dose to make up for the missing one.
