Nevirapine

Nevirapine was FDA approved June 24, 1996 to treat HIV. The FDA allowed an accelerated approval for Nevirapine as the first in a new class of drugs, reviewed in just 119 days. The HIV medication was intended to treat adults with HIV infection who have experienced clinical and/or immunological deterioration.

Nevirapine contains warning of severe, life-threatening, and sometimes fatal hepatoxicity, including fulminant and cholestatic hepatitis, hepatic necrosis and hepatic failure. In addition, severe, life-threatening skin reactions that have been fatal in some instances have occurred in Nevirapine patients. These Nevirapine side effects have included instances of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and hypersensitivity reactions characterized by rash, constitutional findings, and organ dysfunction.

When Nevirapine is combined with certain medications it can change the amount contained in the bloodstream and cause an overdose or under dose. If you would like more information on Nevirapine from a legal expert, please contact us.
