Both Vioxx and Bextra have been taken off the market within six months, leaving arthritis patients confused about how to safely get effective pain relief while protecting their hearts and stomachs.
According to a new study, the majority of arthritis patients may be advised to use a combination of two drugs - a non-COX-2 pain reliever like Aleve, Advil or Motrin and a gastro-protective medicine like Prilosec or Nexium. Some experts believe this drug combination may have always been the best solution.
Vioxx was taken off the market last September after studies linked the COX-2 drug to increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Bextra was taken off the market six months later after the FDA asked its maker last week to stop the sales and marketing of the drug. Bextra was pulled because of similar cardiovascular concerns in addition to being linked to a potentially deadly skin reaction called Stevens Johnson syndrome. For more information on the Bextra and Vioxx recalls, please contact us to confer with a Bextra Lawyer or Vioxx Lawyer and learn your legal rights and options.
