Concluding a three-day meeting to assess the risks of COX-2 inhibitors, including Merck's withdrawn drug Vioxx and Pfizer's Celebrex and Bextra, the FDA advisers have recommended, despite Celebrex heart risks, that the drug can remain on the market.
The committee will also address if further testing is necessary for the drugs and if additional or special warnings or limits should be placed on them. In summary of testimony during the three-day hearing, Dr. Alastair Wood told the assembled crowd that, "It's important to recognize that this is a far larger randomized safety signal than we have seen form any of the drugs that have been withdrawn for safety reasons."For more information on the Celebrex ban, please contact us to confer with a Celebrex Lawyer and learn your legal rights and options.
