Late last week the Consumer Healthcare Products Association issued a recall of certain cough and cold medicines due to the danger of potential overdose.
Novartis and Prestige Brands Holdings have recalled their oral infant medicines after data showed that the cough and cold medications were being improperly used.
Nonprescription cough and cold products from Johnson & Johnson, Wyeth and other makers are reportedly risky, particularly with infants under the age of two.
CVS Removes Medications from Shelves
CVS Caremark Corp. has removed the nonprescription medicines from its shelves and company officials claim that customers who purchased the drugs from their store can return them for a full refund.
The recall comes two months after the FDA warned parents not to give children under the age of two cough and cold medicine.
Risk of Overdose
According to a spokeswoman for Consumer Healthcare, these over-the-counter medications have led to death and serious injuries in several instances.
Some of the medicines being recalled include:
- Infants’ Tylenol Drops Plus Cold
- Pediacare Infant Drops Decongestant
- Pediacare Infant Dropper Long-Acting Cough
