A federal lawsuit was filed by a psychiatrist accusing drug companies of distorting statistics, violating regulations, and exaggerating the effect of their psychotropic products that have resulted in harm and possibly death in children. The psychiatrist claims he was fired in July 2003 from a consulting job at the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare because of his reports of fraud and other violations of civil and criminal law.
The corrupt practices the drug companies are involved in, according to the allegations, have resulted in the “mistreatment of children resulting deaths in Pennsylvania, Texas, and Oklahoma” and include the drugs Paxil, Neurontin, Gortan, Seroquel, Topmax, Risperdal, Trileptal, and Zyprexa. The suit seeks damages of more than $1 million for future lost wages and for being deprived his right to speak out on matters of public concern without retaliation. He also alleges fraud, defamation, and conspiracy. Specific case examples of patients that have died because of the alleged practices cannot be given according to the plaintiff’s lawyer because of patient confidentiality rules.
