The FDA recently ordered a recall on a brand of impotence drugs that have been linked with serious risks.
A recall has been ordered for the True Man Sexual Energy Nutriment Capsules and Energy Max Energy Supplement Men’s Formula Capsules, which are both manufactured by America True Man Health Inc.
Natural Products Proved to be Harmful
The products, which are advertised to consumers as being “natural”, have been labeled by the FDA as being “illegal drug products that contain potentially harmful, undeclared ingredients.”
According to reports, the government drug regulator found that the company did not declare the active ingredients.
Among the ingredients are thione and piperadino, which are both substances that treat erectile dysfunction and are found in Viagra and Levitra.
“These products threaten the health of the people using them because they contain undeclared chemicals that are similar to the active ingredients used in FDA-approved prescription drug products,” explains Steven Galson, the director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
Concerns With Drugs
The main concern that the FDA has with the drugs is that the two undeclared substances can interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and could lower blood pressure dramatically.
“The risk is even more serious because consumers may not know that these ingredients can interact with medications and dangerously lower their blood pressure,” says Galson.
The FDA has threatened to take legal action if the company doesn’t recall the products immediately.
