Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., the manufacturer of Accutane®, faces thousands of injury lawsuits. According to reports, there are more than 2,500 Accutane® lawsuits filed in New Jersey state court. The lawsuits allege bowel problems caused by the acne medicine.
The Accutane® lawsuits have been centralized before Judge Carol E. Higbee in Atlantic County as a mass tort.
Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. recalled Accutane® in the U.S. in 2009, however the lawsuits continue to stack up in court. The generic version, isotretinoin, is still available in the U.S. and is sold as Roaccutane by Hoffmann-La Roche outside the U.S.
According to reports, the Accutane® lawsuits allege that Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. failed to provide adequate warnings about the potential dangers of the drug. Serious side effects include inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis.
It has been reported that, so far, seven cases have reached a jury trial. Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. has, reportedly, lost all seven cases.
Accutane® has been used by more than 16 millions people worldwide. It has been linked to other side effects, but the most damaging side effects that are resulting in lawsuits against Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. are those involving stomach problems.
