A New Jersey woman recently died due to her use of the NuvaRing, a form of contraceptive that has grown in popularity in recent years.
The widower of the woman is now suing the maker of the birth control claiming that the device was responsible for his wife’s early death.
Health Complications Due to Birth Control
Jackie Kelly Bozicev, 32, the mother of two, reportedly collapsed at her home and went into a seizure before her heart stopped.
Despite the paramedics attempt to revive her heart while giving her clot-busting medicine, they were unable to revive Bozicev.
In an autopsy, doctors found that a blood clot had developed in a pelvic vein and became lodged in her lungs.
Family Files Suit
Robert Bozicev, the widower of Jackie Kelly, filed the suit against the manufacturers of NuvaRing, Organon BioSciences NV and Schering-Plough Corp.
Bozicev believes the birth control is to blame for his wife’s unexpected death since she was healthy and showed no risk factors for blood clots.
“A formation of a clot like this is really uncommon for a woman of her age,” says Carmen Scott, the lawyer for the family.
Bozicev also claims that the drug makers failed to warn consumers about the drug’s risks.
