Recent reports claim that the Federal Aviation Administration recently banned the anti-smoking drug, Chantix, from use by pilots and air traffic controllers.
A study conducted supposedly linked the medication with auto accidents and other incidents that could pose a risk to both users and non-users.
Anti-Smoking Drug Controversial
Chantix has long been praised as being an innovative treatment to help smokers quit their addiction.
However, a recent study conducted by a medical group found that Chantix is linked to various unusual and life threatening side effects.
Among these side effects are seizures and a loss of consciousness.
New Reports Force FAA to Take Action
“We have immediate safety concerns about the use of Chantix among person operating an aircraft, trains, buses and other vehicles, or in other settings where a lapse in alertness or motor control could lead to massive, serious injury,” explains the study.
The study also cited other side effects associated with the drug, including:
• Vision Problems
• Skin Reactions
• Heart Rhythm Disturbances
