Zyprexa Warning Label Modified

-October 5, 2007

The controversial drug, Zyprexa is being talked about once again as new warnings are added onto its label.

The drug's manufacturer, Eli Lily & Co., added the new warning's on the medication labels earlier this week.

Potential for Weight Gain

The new warnings that will be added to the Zyprexa labels will inform patients and doctors that the medication could cause weight gain.

Research has found that the schizophrenia drug is associated with excess fat and cholesterol in the bloodstream.

New Research Found

Eli Lilly & Co., made the decision to alter the warning labels after having several discussions with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about the side effects associated with the medication.

The company claims that the additional risks were found through the analysis of clinical trials in both adults and adolescents.

Other Information Updated on Labels

Lily reportedly also updated their information warning health care physicians and patients about the risk of elevated blood sugar that is linked to Zyprexa.

The updates and additional risk information can be found on an insert located on the inside of the medication package.
