Since it hit the U.S. market in 2001, the NuvaRing has been used by millions of women. For some women, the slowly-released hormones in the NuvaRing help regulate their menstrual cycle so they get their period at the same time every month.

Con: Has Negative Side Effects

As with all forms of birth control, the NuvaRing has been linked to several annoying side effects. For the most part, the side effects are mild and tolerable, but there are serious health risks also that need to be taken into consideration. The more common NuvaRing side effects include:

• Nausea, vomiting
• Mood swings
• Weight gain
• Mild hair loss
• Back pain
• Chronic fatigue
• Migraine headaches

Con: Serious NuvaRing Negative Side Effects

There have been several negative side effects linked to NuvaRing use. Although the most common negative NuvaRing side effects are mild, there have been reports of serious, life-threatening injuries caused by the vaginal ring. Serious NuvaRing Side Effects Include:

• Blood clots
• Stroke
• Heart attack
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
• Gallbladder disease
• Severe allergic reaction

Con: Does Not Prevent Against STDs

The NuvaRing, although effective at preventing pregnancy does not protect against the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.
