Research indicates that Plavix may cause possibly fatal hemorrhaging, including serious Plavix gastrointestinal bleeding in patients who have a history of peptic ulcer disease (PUD) or gastrointestinal bleeding. A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that patients taking the popular heart medication are 12 times more likely to suffer recurrent ulcers and Plavix gastrointestinal bleeding than those who received a combination of aspirin and a heartburn pill.
If you or a loved one has suffered serious injury or death from taking Plavix, you may be eligible to file a Plavix lawsuit to seek compensation for your losses. Please click here to speak to a qualified attorney who can evaluate your case and determine the best course of action for you.
Plavix bleeding and other serious risks
For years, the American Heart Association practice guidelines recommended Plavix to patients who had a gastrointestinal intolerance for aspirin. The drug's manufacturers Bristol-Meyer Squibb and Sanofi-Aventis claimed Plavix worked better than aspirin to prevent heart attacks, and strokes and caused fewer ulcers. However, new research suggests these claims are unfounded. Plavix provides NO significant benefit over aspirin therapy and can cause serious side effects including Plavix gastrointestinal bleeding.
In one study, researchers found that Plavix when taken alone or combined with aspirin significantly increases the risk of gastrointestinal hemorrhage or Plavix bleeding ulcers in susceptible patients. Furthermore, Plavix co-administered with aspirin unexpectedly doubled the risk of death, heart attack, and stroke in patients who had no known history of heart disease , but conditions like high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
The drug manufacturers failed to adequately provide a label warning patients of the severe risks of potentially life-threatening Plavix side effects including Plavix gastrointestinal bleeding, heart attack, stroke, death, and more.
If you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers, you should NOT use Plavix . Speak with your doctor about other possible alternatives, particularly if you have a history of PUD or other risk factors such as recent trauma or upcoming surgery.
