Prevacid® Lawyer

If you've experienced any of the side effects of Prevacid®, you may be entitled to compensation from the manufacturer. However, you may require the services of a lawyer to get that compensation. It will be important that you choose an experienced Prevacid® lawyer to handle your case. These cases can be challenging, especially when dealing with bone fractures. A qualified heartburn drug injury lawyer will maximize your chances of a financial recovery. Contact us to speak with a Prevacid® attorney today.

Prevacid® is an acid reducing drug in the same class as Prilosec® and Nexium®. These drugs are proton pump inhibitors and are not designed to be used on a long-term basis. In fact, they are generally indicated for a 14-day course of treatment, which may be repeated after 4 months of nonuse.

However, they are most often used (either in prescription for or in over the counter strengths) to treat chronic conditions such as frequent heartburn and GERD (acid reflux disease). Because those conditions don't go away and symptoms may return after Prevacid® use is discontinued, patients often tend to use the drug for longer periods than recommended.

Though they are generally regarded as safe, there are a number of very dangerous, even life-threatening, side effects that could occur from using Prevacid®.

Dangerous Side Effects of Prevacid®

The most common side effects of Prevacid® are fairly mild and may include:

  • Temporary constipation
  • Mild to moderate diarrhea
  • Mild to moderate nausea (which may or may not lead to vomiting)
  • Mild stomach pain
  • And in some cases, dizziness

These symptoms are generally manageable and may go away of their own accord after a short while. However, the more dangerous side effects of Prevacid® can be fatal in the worst cases. These include:

  • Severe allergic reactions including swelling of the airways
  • Fractures of the wrist, hip and spine
  • Painful rashes or hives
  • Depression
  • Insomnia (which may worsen depression symptoms and impair functionality)
  • Weight changes (either loss or gain), sometimes dramatic

One of the most dangerous side effects of Prevacid® is the drug's tendency to adversely interact with other medications. The list of drugs Prevacid® can interfere with is lengthy and includes (but is not limited to):

  • Theophylline (an Asthma and COPD medicine)
  • Tacrolimus (an immunosuppressant used during organ transplants sometimes used to treat eczema)
  • Atazanavir (an HIV medication)
  • Warfarin (blood-thinner)
  • Prescription antifungal or anti-yeast medicines (Prevacid® may nullify their healing effects)
  • Digoxin (heart medication)

Who Can File a Prevacid® Lawsuit?

While any lawyer may be able to file a Prevacid® lawsuit on your behalf, it's recommended that you seek out a professional attorney who has a track record of successful drug-related lawsuits in order to receive all of the benefits and compensation you deserve (and to avoid the denial of your claim). Whenever possible, you should seek out lawyers who have experience dealing with the very drug you are using (or have used) in order to get the best results.
