Procrit and Blood Clots

Procrit, one of the three most popular drugs prescribed to treat anemia in patients with chronic kidney failure and HIV or those with chemotherapy-induced anemia, has been linked to severe adverse events including the formation of blood clots. Blood clots in the body can block blood supply to the brain and/or heart resulting in life-threatening injury including heart attack and stroke.

If you or a loved one has suffered injury or death as a result of Procrit-induced blood clots, you may be eligible to recover your damages including medical bills, pain and mental anguish, and more. Please contact us today to get in touch with a proven defective drug attorney who can help hold responsible party(s) accountable for your losses and get you the compensation you deserve.

Procrit Blood Clot Warning

Recent studies have found a higher incidence of serious cardiovascular complications, blood clots, and death linked to the anemia drugs Procrit, Epogen , and Aranesp . In March 2007, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a public health advisory announcing that a heightened warning label would be added to the drugs. The “black-box” warning alerts doctors and patients of the various dangers of Procrit and other erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESAs). Those dangers include:

• Significantly increased risk of Procrit blood clots in patients with kidney damage and heart disease

• A higher risk of blood clots in orthopedic surgery patients taking recommended doses of Procrit

• A heightened risk of fatality in cancer patients not undergoing chemotherapy treatments

• Rapid tumor growth in head and neck cancer patients given recommended doses of ESAs
