Procrit Side Effects

Sadly, recent studies indicate that these anemia drugs are linked to potentially life-threatening side effects including stroke, cardiovascular problems, and death.

If you or someone you love has suffered harm as a result of Procrit side effects, it is important to understand that you have a number of legal remedies available to you. “Black-Box” Side Effects Warning

The results of several studies in 2004 raised concern regarding the serious risks of Procrit side effects. However, it was not until March 2007 that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ordered the drug maker, Amgen, Inc., to add a “black-box” label—the strongest FDA warning—to Procrit and the other anemia drugs, Epogen and Aranesp. The label alerts doctors and patients of the severe risks associated with the use of ESAs and also warns of newly found adverse events of the drugs. Procrit side effects include:

  • Blood clots—especially in kidney failure and orthopedic surgery patients
  • Heart attack and cardiac disease
  • Stroke
  • Death—a higher risk in cancer patients not undergoing chemotherapy
  • Rapid tumor growth in some head and neck cancer patients

The new warning label also recommends that Procrit and other ESAs be administered at the lowest possible dosages to prevent heart failure, blood clots, and fatality as well as to avoid blood transfusions.
