Why You Need a Protonix® Lawyer

Protonix® belongs to the same class of drugs as Prilosec® and Nexium®. These drugs are called proton pump inhibitors and are generally prescribed to treat conditions in which the patient is suffering from excessive stomach acid. The diseases and maladies most often associated with these drugs include:

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, or acid reflux disease)
  • Chronic heartburn
  • Ulcers in the stomach or duodenum
  • Bacterial infections (H. Pylori)
  • Other chronic conditions

However, Protonix® is only prescribed to treat the erosion of the esophagus lining or as part of a course of treatment for chronic ailments such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

One of the reasons for this is that Protonix® has been linked to more severe side effects including:

  • Increased risk of respiratory infection (especially in patients who are already ill)
  • Potentially lethal skin conditions
  • Liver failure
  • Kidney damage
  • Bone breakage
  • Severe drug interactions
  • Potentially lethal allergic reactions

In addition, certain cases of food poisoning have been linked with proton pump inhibitors such as Protonix® (insufficient acid levels cannot neutralize all the harmful bacteria patients ingest).

Protonix® (pantoprazole) is available by prescription only and comes in three forms:

  • 20 mg delayed release tablet
  • 40mg delayed release tablets
  • 40mg delayed release suspension (designed to mix with water or juice and be consumed orally)

The typical dosage is one 20mg pill per day though some conditions may require 40mg per day or even two 40mg tablets per day.

Patients taking larger than normal doses, multiple doses per day, or using Protonix® for more than the recommended 8 week duration are at much higher risk for developing certain side effects.

If you've taken Protonix® (pantoprazole) and experienced any of the side effects, it's your legal right to receive compensation, but those pharmaceutical companies don't just give away money.

You Need a Protonix® Attorney

A qualified attorney in the realm of pharmaceutical law can help you through every step of the process. Though your case might not even wind up as a Protonix® lawsuit, you'd be wise to have an attorney on your side.

Not only will an experienced lawyer know what to expect in the way of defense from the pharmaceutical company, they will know what evidence you need to provide to prove that your illness or injury was due to your use of Protonix®. Successful litigation will require a thorough investigation and a strong case. Only a qualified attorney can provide you with the experience you need.
