Raptiva® Injections

800-889-3898

Generically known as efalizumab, Raptiva® injections are used to treat the autoimmune skin condition known as psoriasis. Raptiva® Psoriasis is an incurable, non-contagious skin affliction in which red, scaly patches (plaques) form on the elbows, knees scalp and/or genitals.

Administered once a week via syringe, Raptiva® injections have been found to cause a variety of serious, life threatening side effects, including:

• Meningitis, swelling of the brain and/or spinal cord
• Lymphoma, malignancies in the lymph nodes (the glands that filter bacteria and cancerous cells from the body)
• Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), inflammation of the brain's white matter
• Sepsis, an infection of the blood

Should Raptiva® patients develop any of the above side effects, it's vital that they:

• Seek emergency medical care to save their lives
• Find an alternate treatment for their psoriasis
• Follow through with all long-term prescribed care to prevent further complications
• Meet with a personal injury lawyer who specializes in Raptiva® lawsuits to find out if they have a case against Genentech and Merck Serono, the makers of the Raptiva® drug

Risk Factors for Raptiva® Infections

Individuals with the highest risk of developing potentially fatal Raptiva® infections include patients who have a history of:

• Chronic infections (including bacterial, fungal and/or viral infections)
• Receiving phototherapy (use of light to treat acne, jaundice, etc.)
• Taking immunosuppressant medications (which can be prescribed in the treatment of organ transplants, immune system disorders, cancer, etc.)

Getting vaccines or interacting with people who have recently received "live" vaccines can also increase the chances that Raptiva® patients will develop life-threatening complications.

When to Seek Medical and Legal Help

When Raptiva® injections cause complications, patients can develop any combination of:

• chills
• congestion
• coughing
• fever
• intensified pain, redness or swelling around skin wounds
• painful or difficulty urinating
• sore throat

Emergency medical attention will be vital, should Raptiva® patients start developing any of the above symptoms.

Once the appropriate medical treatments have stabilized their health, injured Raptiva® patients (or families of deceased Raptiva® patients) should set up an initial consultation with a personal injury attorney who specializes in Raptiva® lawsuits.

During this meeting, prospective plaintiffs can:

• Find out if they have a case and are entitled to compensation
• Learn more about the process of compiling and winning Raptiva® lawsuits
• Get information about settlements in past cases similar to their own
• Decide whether they want to file an individual or class action lawsuit (based on their individual needs and circumstances)

To encourage affected individuals to stand up for their legal rights and pursue their deserved compensation, Raptiva® lawyers typically offer these consultations for free and will delay payment for their services until a settlement is won.
