Raptiva Medication and Dosing

800-889-3898

Produced by Genentech and Merck Senoro, Raptiva medication (efalizumab, generically) is an injectable drug prescribed to treat the red, scaly skin patches (plaques) associated with psoriasis. As an autoimmune disorder, psoriasis is incurable and, to date, can only be treated by preventing or minimizing symptoms.

Like many newer prescriptions, however, the Raptiva drug has been found to cause some serious, potentially fatal side effects.

Raptiva patients who develop injuries following use of this medication should:

• Seek emergency medical care to save their lives
• Follow through with all prescribed long-term treatments, should Raptiva injuries be chronic
• Find an alternate treatment for their psoriasis
• Meet with a personal injury lawyer who specializes in Raptiva lawsuits to see if they are entitled to compensation for their injuries

Raptiva Dosing

The concentration of a Raptiva medication dose will vary from patient to patient, based on an individual's body weight. For optimal results and minimal side effects, it's vital that patients take the Raptiva injection precisely as their doctor, nurse or pharmacist has indicated.

In most cases, patients will need a Raptiva dose once a week. The injection sites are typically rotated between the:

• abdomen
• buttocks
• thigh
• upper arm

Raptiva Medication Side Effects

Unfortunately, Raptiva can cause some patients to develop the following life-threatening side effects:

• Lymphoma, cancer of the lymph node glands (which are responsible for filtering harmful substances from the blood)
• Meningitis, a bacterial or viral infection resulting in swelling of the brain and/or spinal cord
• Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a viral infection that causes the brain's white matter to become inflamed
• Sepsis, a blood infection.

All of these serious Raptiva medication side effects will be fatal without immediate treatment.

Raptiva patients may be developing one of the above conditions if they start to experience one or more of the following symptoms:

• chills and/or fever
• congestion
• coughing
• increased inflammation, redness or pain surrounding a wound
• painful or difficult urination
• sore throat
• unusual bruising or bleeding

Raptiva Lawsuits

Given the severity of possible Raptiva medication side effects, injured individuals will likely be entitled to compensation by pursuing a Raptiva lawsuit.

To find out if they have a case, Raptiva patients (or families of deceased Raptiva patients) should set up an initial consultation with a personal injury attorney. During this meeting, prospective plaintiffs can:

• Discover whether they have a viable legal claim against Genentech and Merck Serono
• Learn more about the process of building and winning a Raptiva lawsuit
• Get information about settlements in past cases similar to their own
• Determine whether they want to file an individual claim or join a class action lawsuit (based on their individual needs and circumstances)

Experienced Raptiva lawyers offer these consultations for free and will work on contingency to encourage affected individuals to stand up for their legal rights and seek out compensation for their losses.
