Viagra Light Sensitivity

The blockbuster drug Viagra is the top-selling erectile dysfunction drug on the market today with billions of dollars having been generated from Viagra sales. With around 23 million Americans using Viagra today, it is one of the biggest selling drugs in the $200 billion prescription drug business. However, recent reports name Viagra as the cause of multiple vision problems such as light sensitivity, blurred vision, and even blindness.

The correlation between Viagra and light sensitivity has been more than evident recently as many people who take the pill have experienced vision difficulties from Viagra. Viagra and light sensitivity have been known to exist since early trials of the drug. Light sensitivity is also known as photophobia. While the discomfort of light sensitivity can be reduced by avoiding sunlight, closing the eyes, wearing dark glasses, or darkening the room, the cause for the light sensitivity should still be determined since proper treatment may cure the problem.

If you take Viagra and light sensitivity becomes an issue, you should contact a doctor immediately. If Viagra induces light sensitivity to a severe degree in which you need to wear sunglasses indoors, immediate medical attention should be sought. If you've taken Viagra and light sensitivity is accompanied by headaches, red eye, or blurred vision, or sensitivity to light that does not go away in a day, stop taking Viagra and immediately seek a consultation with a doctor.

Reported cases of Viagra light sensitivity show many of the affected men complaining of a "blind line" or a "gray cloud" that has descended over their fields of vision. Doctors have diagnosed this condition as non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy, or NAION: a persistent and irreversible condition that can lead to total blindness. Viagra is said to starve the optic nerve of needed oxygenated blood, causing the optic nerve damage that adversely affects one's eyesight.

The Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology has found a chronological connection between the use of Viagra and light sensitivity and NAION in a 2005 study. In those seven cases studied, "all patients presented with blurred vision and loss of visual field" within 36 hours of ingesting the drug, prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction, with most patients noticing the effects upon awakening the next morning. This study adds seven more documented cases of Viagra-related NAION to a prior study of seven others, bringing the total number to fourteen individuals whose cases have been studied in-depth.

If you have experienced light sensitivity from Viagra the first step is to contact a doctor for immediate medical attention. The next step is to contact an experienced attorney to help you with your claim. An experienced attorney will make sure you get the compensation due to you and expedite your Viagra claim.
