Yaz Birth Control Side Effects: Arrythmia

Produced by Bayer Healthcare, Yaz is a contraceptive pill that may also be prescribed in the treatment of moderate acne and/or PMDD, premenstrual dysphoric disorder in women taking it as a form of birth control. When taken within two hours of the same time daily, Yaz is 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy.

Despite its effectiveness, however, Yaz is known to cause a range of serious side effects, including arrhythmia. Women who develop arrhythmia after taking Yaz, generically known as drospirenone, will be entitled to compensation for their injuries by pursuing a personal injury lawsuit.

What is Arrhythmia?

Arrhythmias refer to heartbeats that may be faster, slower or irregular from normal (" Normal heart rate" is gauged between 60 and 100 beats per minute). While some arrhythmias are mild and won't require any treatment, in the worst cases, arrhythmia complications can include:

  • blood clots
  • stroke
  • cardiac arrest
  • death

Indications that women may be developing arrhythmia include:

  • chest pain
  • dizziness
  • fatigue
  • feelings of anxiety
  • fluttering or thumping in the chest and/or neck
  • lightheadedness
  • loss of consciousness
  • palpitations
  • shortness of breath
  • sweating

Yaz patients who develop any combination of the above symptoms should seek immediate medical attention for a thorough examination and a proper diagnosis.

Arrhythmia Treatments

Arrhythmia treatments will vary according to:

  • a woman's age
  • her medical history
  • the type and severity of the arrhythmia present

Unfortunately, there is no cure for arrhythmia. Consequently, treatment options, which involve minimizing the symptoms, may include:

  • Getting a pacemaker, internal cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) or other medical device implanted
  • Limiting consumption of alcohol and nicotine
  • Practicing relaxation and stress reduction techniques
  • Reducing intake of caffeine and other stimulant drugs
  • Taking anti-arrhythmic medications (These may include calcium channel blockers, digitalis, anticoagulants, etc.)
  • Undergoing surgery

In most cases, arrhythmia treatments will be long-term, as rehabilitation and regular checkups will be necessary to monitoring patients' health.

Following a Yaz-Related Arrhythmia: Yaz Lawsuits

Women diagnosed with an arrhythmia after taking dangerous birth controls should meet with a Yasmin® personal injury lawyer, once their health is stable, to:

  • Find out if they have a legal claim against Bayer
  • Learn more about the process of pursuing a Yaz lawsuit
  • Get estimates of settlements that they may be entitled to (based on settlements awarded in past cases similar to their own)
  • Get advice regarding whether they should file an individual Yaz lawsuit or join a progressing class-action case

Those who decide to stand up for their legal rights via a Yaz lawsuit can win compensation for their:

  • past hospital bills
  • ongoing treatment costs
  • permanent disabilities
  • lost wages
  • future living expenses (should a permanent Yaz-related disability prevent them from earning a living)
  • emotional pain and suffering
  • funeral and burial costs in cases of death

Have you or a loved one experienced arrhythmia or another serious side effect of Yaz birth control? If so, contact us today to talk to an experienced Yaz attorney who can evaluate your case and help you recover the compensation you deserve.
