Yaz Birth Control Deaths

(800) 673-5138

Generically known as drospirenone, Yaz is an oral method of contraception that prevents pregnancy by altering the uterine and cervical linings. Yaz, which is produced by Bayer Healthcare, is not indicated for treatment of PMS.

Tragically, Yaz birth control has been found to cause a range of serious side effects, some of which have resulted in death.

Families of deceased Yaz patients will be entitled to a settlement for their loss by following through with a wrongful death Yaz lawsuit.

Causes of Yaz Birth Control Deaths

Among the life-threatening side effects associated with Yaz use are:

  • blood clots
  • deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a condition in which blood clots lodge in the body's deep veins (particularly in the legs) and hinder healthy circulation
  • heart attack
  • liver damage, which is typically indicated by jaundice (yellowing of the whites of the eyes and/or skin), dark urine or stomach pain
  • pulmonary embolism, a condition in which blood clots make their way to the lungs and cause breathing difficulties and chest pain (Without emergency medical care, pulmonary embolism can be fatal.)
  • severe allergic reaction, which is usually characterized by breathing difficulties, hives and facial or tongue inflammation
  • stroke

Without prompt or adequate treatment, any of the above health complications can result in death.

Risk Factors for Yaz Deaths

Women who have the highest risk of developing potentially fatal Yaz side effects include those who are over 35 and/or have a history of:

  • diabetes
  • excessive alcohol consumption and/or use of illicit drugs (such as cocaine)
  • heart disease and/or arrhythmia
  • high cholesterol
  • hormone therapy
  • hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • obesity
  • smoking
  • stroke

To minimize the risk of Yaz birth control death, women should:

  • Discuss their complete medical history with their doctor before starting a course of Yaz medication
  • Understand the risk factors for and symptoms of severe Yaz side effects
  • Seek emergency medical care, should they develop the symptoms of life-threatening Yaz complications

Following a Yaz Birth Control Death

Loved ones of deceased Yaz patients should meet with a personal injury attorney experienced at winning Yaz lawsuits. During an initial free consultation, prospective plaintiffs can get an evaluation of their legal claim and expert advice regarding the best manner in which to pursue their case.

Although the process of winning a Yaz settlement can take months, those who decide to stand up for their legal rights and hold Bayer accountable for their loved one's death can win compensation for:

  • funeral and burial expenses
  • medical bills
  • pain and suffering
