Yasmin Lawyers in Pennsylvania

For information about your specific circumstances, contact us today and we will schedule a FREE and private evaluation of your case.

What is Yaz?

Prescribed in the prevention of pregnancy, Yaz is an oral birth control medication that has also been prescribed to treat moderate acne (in females over 14) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a more severe form of PMS that may cause depression, insomnia, migraines and heart palpitations.

When taken as directed, Yaz (generically known as drispirenone) is more than 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy. To take Yaz properly, women have to take Yaz within 4 hours of the same time each day. Yaz is a 24/4 pill, meaning that the first 24 pills contain the drug while the last 4 are placebos (When the placebo is taken, women will menstruate). Since it was first introduced in 2001, Yaz has been taken by millions of women worldwide.

What is Yasmin?

Yasmin (generic: Ocella) is another form of birth control, also produced by Bayer HealthCare. The two birth control pills are the only forms of oral contraceptives to contain the progestin component drospirenone (DRSP). The only variation in these two pills is that Yasmin contains a slightly higher level of ethinyl estradiol (EE).

Basis of Yaz/Yasmin Lawsuits: Serious Health Risks

Among the most severe health problems associated with taking Yaz/Yasmin are:

  • blood clots
  • deep vein thrombosis (DVT), blood clots in the body's deep vein (typically in the legs) that significantly impede circulation
  • depression
  • heart attack
  • hyperkalemia, excessive levels of potassium in the blood
  • liver damage
  • pulmonary embolism (PE), blood clots in the lung's airways that dangerously impair the ability to breathe
  • severe allergic reaction, characterized by skin rash, facial swelling and/or difficulty breathing
  • stroke

Women who smoke, are over 35 and/or have a history of any of the above conditions have the highest risk.

Meeting with Yaz Lawyers in Pennsylvania

While every case is different and depends on several factors, plaintiffs will likely be entitled to recover compensation for damages including (but not limited to):

  • outstanding medical bills
  • ongoing treatment costs
  • lost wages in the event that the injury prevented the injured from working
  • permanent disabilities and any necessary equipment
  • funeral and burial costs (should families be seeking compensation for a Yaz patient's death)
  • pain and suffering
