Zyprexa® Lawsuits

The November 2001 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, medical officers from the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research and a Duke University Medical Center physician reported on the possible Zyprexa® hyperglycemia link in adolescents, leading to Zyprexa® lawsuits being filed. As more information linking Zyprexa® to serious conditions were reported, the Public Citizen consumer group reported becoming increasingly concerned about hyperglycemia and diabetes.

Zyprexa® lawsuits being filed have become a controversial subject. Some people think that Zyprexa® lawsuits are attempts by the legal profession to seek damages unrightfully, however the high number of serious adverse effects seem to justify Zyprexa® lawsuits seeking damages suffered. In the December 2001 American Journal of Medicine, more FDA staff members published a report linking Zyprexa® to diabetes, however the FDA failed to issue adequate warning according to Public Citizen consumer group and some Zyprexa® lawsuits.

The consumer group does not believe the FDA alerted physicians and Zyprexa® patients of the Zyprexa® risks and instead buried the brief warning in the adverse reactions section of the labeling.
