Zyprexa® Withdrawal

(800) 889-9248

There has not been a Zyprexa® withdrawal issued, however there are still safety concerns associated to the schizophrenia drug. There have been reports of hyperglycemia and diabetes in Zyprexa® patients that has resulted in ketoacidosis and coma. Concern has been heightened in other countries as well and no Zyprexa® withdrawals have occurred overseas but warnings have been issued.

In Japan, the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare issued Zyprexa® emergency safety information on April 16, 2002 after becoming concerned with fatal outcomes of Zyprexa® use. British authorities also did not make such strong decisions like issuing a Zyprexa® withdrawal but warned of diabetes risks with Zyprexa® use after receiving hyperglycemia and diabetes reports leading to ketoacidosis and coma in some instances. The Public Citizen is not pleased with the U.S. response to Zyprexa® adverse events and while not necessarily pushing for a Zyprexa® withdrawal, the group believes the FDA has not even properly warned physicians and patients of Zyprexa® risks.
